Despite the hundreds of millions of pounds we send to help prevent illegal migrants from crossing the Channel, they are threatening to arrest British citizens who are trying to stop these migrants. If these individuals were being aggressive or threatening, then yes, France should intervene. However, if they are merely trying to prevent illegal migration, which is a reasonable action, then it raises questions about France's approach. Crossing the Channel is dangerous, and preventing illegal crossings should be a priority. Recent figures indicate that 41,472 illegal migrants arrived in the UK in 2025 after crossing the Channel, making it the second-highest annual total on record. Since Labour came to power in July 2024, around 65,000 migrants have reached the UK. This is in addition to the stories about spending hundreds of millions on housing for illegal migrants.
