Overall, the video presents a critical view of the Labour Party's current trajectory and the potential consequences for democracy and social justice in the UK. ## Full Transcript Acknowledging the Labour Party's Situation I think it is time we all acknowledge, and most importantly, that the Labour Party accepts that if there were a general election today, their party would be pretty much decimated. If they continue on their current path, even though many of them seem to think they are doing a good job, the effect will be even more pronounced than it would be today. It doesn't matter what opinion poll you look at or what map you examine regarding voting intentions and predictions of seats; the picture is pretty much the same. It looks like a sea of blue with a few other colours around, and the Labour Party decimated. Even though some polls suggest they will retain a number of seats, I believe the reality will be even starker than they think, particularly if they persist on their current trajectory. Is it any wonder that they seem prepared to do whatever it takes to buy the votes of those they think will support them? This includes giving in to welfare demands, providing free TV licences, and cancelling elections. I will discuss these issues in this video, including how you can legally avoid paying for a TV licence. Cancelling Elections Let’s start with another "I told you so." I previously mentioned the cancellation of elections, and there has been much debate about whether they are genuinely cancelling elections or merely delaying them. Some people argue self-righteously that they are not cancelling them. Their reasoning is that there is no point in holding an election in a local area when they might have to undo it a few months later due to the devolution of powers and the creation of unitary authorities. However, I maintained at the time, and I still hold this view, that they were cancelling elections. I believe they did so knowing they would lose those elections in local areas. I argued that these decisions to cancel or postpone elections were unlawful and illegitimate, and it seems the Electoral Commission agrees with me. The Chief Executive of the Electoral Commission noted, "We note the government statement in Parliament on the 18th of December inviting councils to raise capacity concerns and seek to postpone elections in May 2026." In a fairly unprecedented move, the Electoral Commission has decided to respond to these postponements. The Chair of the Electoral Commission expressed disappointment with both the timing and substance of the statement, stating, "Scheduled elections should, as a rule, go ahead as planned and only be postponed in exceptional circumstances." They are concerned about the possibility of postponing council elections in May and even more about any further postponement of those already deferred from 2025. Regardless of whether there is a shake-up and reorganisation, the fundamental right to a democratic vote on how your local area is run and governed is paramount. By taking away that right, even for a year, they are undermining democracy. I maintain that Labour is doing this because they know they will lose in those local areas, and they are clinging to power. The Dangers of Postponing Elections There is a stark warning I have discussed with learned colleagues recently, which is a devastatingly shocking revelation we may face in a few years. As you can imagine, a lot of what I do on my channel involves extensive reading and research, comparing news stories, news outlets, and political leanings. The Electoral Commission's Position Decisions on any postponements will not be taken until mid-January, less than three months before the scheduled May 2026 elections. This uncertainty is unprecedented and will not help campaigners and administrators who need time to prepare for their important roles. The argument Labour presented was that postponing elections would help organisation, but the Electoral Commission Chair disagrees, stating, "Parties and candidates have already been preparing for some time and will be understandably concerned. As a matter of principle, we do not think that capacity constraints are a legitimate reason for delaying long-planned elections." In other words, postponing the elections is illegitimate. Extending existing mandates risks affecting the legitimacy of local decision-making and damaging public confidence. The public will not trust their councils if they are denied the right to vote for those who make decisions about their local areas. There is a clear conflict of interest in asking existing councils to decide how long it will be before they are answerable to voters. It is not legitimate to ask a local authority, which may be in a party that could lose seats, when they think the vote should take place. Voters must have a say in who represents them at local government. The Implications for Future Elections The biggest danger in all of this is if they can cancel local elections, what might they do when the general election comes around? Currently, there is no standing power to cancel or postpone a UK general election by executive decision alone. A general election can only be postponed in two ways: either by a new act of Parliament, which would have to pass through Parliament, or by the death of the monarch, which would automatically postpone it for 14 days. Historically, during World War I and World War II, there were annual delays pushed through Parliament by legislation. It would take something serious, like a war or another pandemic, to push the government into enacting legislation that would delay or push back the general election. If I am being cynical, I believe they will do all they can to cling to power. This situation could lead to a poll tax moment for this party, but we must wait to see what happens. I believe Labour is doing everything possible to secure power, push their decisions through, and rake in as much money as they can through taxes, all while pushing agendas that many of us disagree with. The Issue of Women's Rights We have Bridget Phillipson apparently blocking the publication of guidance following the Supreme Court ruling in For Women Scotland, which confirmed the meaning of sex, women, and men in the Equality Act. This ruling did not change the law or take away any rights; it merely clarified what it always was. The Equality Act 2010 protects people from unlawful discrimination based on protected characteristics, including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy, maternity, race, religion, beliefs, sex, or sexual orientation. Occasionally, one or two of these protected characteristics may conflict, and it may be necessary for an organisation to discriminate positively or negatively for a legitimate aim, provided it is a proportionate means of doing so. For example, if an organisation provides certain facilities for women but not men, this is acceptable if it serves a legitimate aim. However, when it comes to the provision of facilities for women and men, they should be separate based on biology. This is essentially what the Supreme Court ruling confirmed. Yet, Bridget Phillipson has sat on guidance to this effect for eight months. Instead of publishing and approving it, she has given a statement to the High Court describing her proposed guidance, which is trans-exclusive, and has therefore failed to sign off on it. Despite being the Minister for Women and Equality, she is effectively denying women their privacy and dignity by refusing to sign off on this guidance. It has been described as a betrayal of women and girls everywhere. Phillipson made her opposition to these guidelines clear in the High Court, attacking them as trans-exclusive. The shadow minister for equalities has stated that the government lawyers working under Bridget Phillipson's instruction are essentially trying to rewrite the Supreme Court judgment that sex means biological sex. It is clear they have no intention of complying with the law or implementing the ruling to ensure women's rights to single-sex spaces are protected. Experimentation on Children There is also an open letter from clinicians to Wes Streeting expressing grave concerns about the Pathways trial, which involves experimenting on children with puberty blockers. These experts, who treat children and adults with gender-related distress, are pleading for their voices to be heard. They argue that the trial is unsafe and does not meet the requirements of UK clinical trial regulations. The expected benefits do not outweigh the expected risks, jeopardising the safety and well-being of participants. Foreseeable risks to child development have not been minimised, and the trial is not scientifically sound. Important information from individuals who have already received hormone treatments should be evaluated first. Despite Wes Streeting confirming a complete ban not long ago, he is now pressing on with this trial. Avoiding the TV Licence Fee Finally, many people ask me how to avoid paying for a TV licence while watching TV legally. There are several ways to do this, some of which can be a bit obscure and confusing. Tens of thousands of people are prosecuted each year for evading the TV licence fee, often because they do not fully understand the rules. You only need a TV licence if you watch or record live TV at or around the time it is broadcast or consume BBC content on BBC iPlayer. If you do not use BBC iPlayer, you do not need a licence. If you are at a friend's house without a TV licence and you watch live TV on your battery-powered device, you are covered by your home licence. However, if you watch live TV on a device that is plugged in, you would need a licence for that device. To avoid needing a TV licence, simply do not consume anything as it is being broadcast. Most programmes are eventually uploaded to YouTube or elsewhere for on-demand viewing. If you watch a programme days later, that is no longer at or around the time it was broadcast, and you do not need a TV licence. There has been confusion regarding battery-powered devices. If you are at a friend's house without a TV licence and you watch live TV on your iPhone or iPad, as long as your device is battery-powered, it is legal. However, if you watch live TV on a plugged-in device, you would need a licence. I believe there will be a test case regarding the excessive wording used by TV licensing, which might amount to harassment through false threats of litigation.
