If you need your ID to prove your ID, why not just require the ID and home address? But no, to do this online, they want you to go through this government login system. It states, 'This lets users sign in and prove their identity so they can access services quickly and easily.' Ultimately, it will allow users to access any government service using the same email and password and only require them to prove their identity once. However, it’s false because they want both a government login and your photo ID. Why is it forcing you to do this, and how can you get around it? I'll get back to that in just a moment. But first, let’s discuss the warnings. There have been numerous news stories about whether this system can be trusted to keep people's personal data secure. Spoiler alert: I believe the answer is no. I hate to say I told you so, but here we are. Remember when I said the NHS and others are collecting your data? It’s a question of when, not if, your data is leaked or hacked. The data isn't even safe with the Foreign Office, which confirmed it was a victim of a cyberattack in October. They reported that it wasn't clear who perpetrated the attack, with The Sun naming a Chinese group called Storm 1849 as possibly responsible for the breach, which may include tens of thousands of visa details. Your data cannot be trusted because it's demonstrably compromised, even at the Foreign Office. It’s not just the Foreign Office at risk; a software company that provides services for NHS England also suffered a cyberattack. They didn’t comment on whether data was stolen, but this shows all of this data is at risk. Recently, whistleblowers told ITV News that hackers could target vulnerabilities in the government login system, which forces users to update their driving licenses. Vulnerabilities that should not be present are indeed present. A whistleblower leaked highly sensitive documents to ITV News, revealing that concerns have been investigated within the Digital ID service, finding that it carries a high level of risk for personal data theft and government fraud. To do it online, you need the government login and your photo ID, but you can also change your address by post. The process differs depending on whether you have a photocard or paper license, but the information is there. While the option to apply online is prominently displayed, you can also change your address by post without creating a digital ID. Lastly, there's a bizarre statement from Kia Star, saying they aim to make it impossible for children to take, share, or view nude images and will ban apps that create deep fakes. While I believe deep fakes should be banned, the idea of making it impossible for children to access nude images raises concerns. The only feasible methods would involve banning all photograph-sharing apps or implementing a system to scan everyone’s photographs, which is problematic and has a history of causing false positives. An anecdote involved a parent taking a medical photograph of a child, which triggered an algorithm and led to account suspension and legal battles for accessing their data.
